If Stickers Told the Truth…

I’ve seen several blog posts and comments about book stickers lately. One of my very favourites is this one by fellow blogger and highly talented crime fiction writer Vanda Symon. It’s all got me to thinking about what it would be like if book stickers were really honest. So here are just a few honest stickers that it would be interesting to see on books.

Got any you’d like to add??? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. Oh Margot, these are *fantastic*!! I’d love to see one that said “It took the writer 5 years to write this book, you’re going to read it in less than a week.”

  2. Mine would say “This is a lazy imitation of the latest’big idea'”

  3. Elspeth – Thank you :-). I have to admit I had fun doing this… And I love your contribution! A lot of people don’t appreciate how long it takes to write a good book.

Sarah – Oh, now that is really clever! Well done :-).

  4. If only but I am afraid it will never happen.

Mine would be: ‘If you loved D** Br**n we can arrange a lobotomy’ but I suspect that might be actionable.

  5. Hm.
What about “I could do better, but if you are willing to pay for this…”

  6. Norman – LOL!! It might, indeed, be actionable, but it’s still hilarious – thank you :-). Nicely done :-).

Dorte – Oh, now that is very good! I love it!

‘In 6 months time this will be half the price, in 12 months time it’ll be in the remainder bin.’

    ‘Almost nominated for a prize.’

‘This book is cheaper than going to the movies, will last longer and be more enjoyable.’

  8. These are great, Margot! Remind me NOT to hire you to be my publicist! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Rob – Oh, those are wonderful! Thank you :-). I really like Almost Nominated For a Prize – Truly inspired!

Alan – Thank you :-). Glad you liked them. And I would probably be a lousy publicist, so it’s just as well you don’t want me to do your PR. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. LOL – absolutely brilliant Margot

  11. Thanks, Bernadette ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Love these! Especially the one about insomnia. ๐Ÿ™‚ Can you imagine people’s faces if there really *were* stickers like these in the stores?

  13. Elizabeth – Thanks :-). I would love to see people’s reaction to honest stickers. It’d be great to see what they would do!

  14. These are wonderful. My favorite is “Warning! Misleading Blurb.” I’ve read several books that needed that sticker on them. Thanks for the laughs.

  15. Mason – That’s so kind of you; I’m glad you liked these. ๐Ÿ™‚ I know exactly what you mean, too, about misleading blurbs; I’m utterly convinced that a lot of blurbs are written by people who haven’t read the book and have no idea of what happens in it.

  16. What a great post, Margot. After a rough day, it really made me smile, thank you.

One sticker I would definitely use: “If you like crime fiction, read Margot’s blog (and books)” !!!

  17. Maxine – Awww… thank you :). You are so very kind, and if this post made you smile, so much the better.

  18. Margot, you and that wit of yours! I love it. You made my day. ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Awww… thanks, Bobbi *blush* :-). I’m glad you liked it.

What's your view? I'd love to hear it.
